
The Threshold of the Americas – Competition

Arquine is focusing their annual competition – for the third time- in the US-Mexico border region. The former 2 competitions have had Ciudad Juárez as a location for this architectural interventions, now it is Tijuana’s turn.
The selected site: The crossing of Tijuana/San Ysidro – a checkpoint that sees more than 18 million cars cross every year.
The program: A Center for Migrants that performs both as a landmark and a bridge – a piece of architecture that helps to leverage the surrounding communities and become both a destination and referent of the busiest border in the world.
